Patri — Privacy Policy

Effective 19 September 2026

Patri is an independent, ad-free app that shows Indian Railways train information. This policy explains what the app does with data. The short version: almost nothing leaves your phone, and nothing about you is stored.

What the app collects

Location. If you open Inside train mode, the app reads your phone's GPS to show your speed and the nearest station. This happens only while that screen is open, only with your permission, and the location is never saved to disk or sent anywhere. Every other feature works with location denied.

Nothing else. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs.

What is stored on your phone

All of this stays on your device. Uninstalling the app removes it.

What is sent to our server

When you look up a train, station or route, the app asks our server for that train's live status. The request contains the train number or station code — nothing about you. Like any web server, ours sees the requesting IP address for the duration of the request; we do not log requests per user. The server keeps a short-lived cache of responses keyed by train and station so that repeated lookups do not hit the upstream service again.

Our server, in turn, fetches live data from the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), a public service of Indian Railways. NTES receives only the train and station being looked up.

PNR and seat availability

These screens load the official Indian Railways enquiry website inside the app. That site is operated by Indian Railways / CRIS and is subject to its own privacy policy. Patri does not read, store or transmit anything you enter there.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
